Everyday angels

The weekend is here so we decide to go do some sightseeing. We pack a few things and leave for Mombasa.

After the motocycle ride (3 of us without helmet) from Asha's to the matatu stop, we come across Rama, a guy we met yesterday who walked with us for a while on our way back to the house. Today he helps us get to the city. A couple of matatu rides and some tuk-tuk to our destination.

We buy some strawberry jam to take back to the house (to go with our morning crêpes) and also a map of the world for the big kids at the orphanage.

Then treat ourselves to the indulging wonders of an avocado and cheese burger and a mango juice, before we head down to South Coast.

Mombasa is actually an island so we we need to take the ferry to the other side. We ask our waitress for the way to the ferry and she offers to take us there..

The patient crowd moves slowly towards the ferry.. More than 300 people.. and we are, of course, the only 2 white faces to be seen. 



Eunice, our new friend, who is also headed our way, asks us about our project. She herself is an orphan, (from up North, near Somalia..) and is genuinely touched by us being here out of altruism; so she makes it her mission to help us get to a nice and tranquil place.

Initially we wanted to go to Tiwi but she advises us otherwise. We should go to Diani instead.. It's safer. She calls her husband who comes great us and both take us to a very decent guesthouse nearby.

We hug and thank each other (Eunice is so happy to have met us it doesn't even seem fair...) An hour later she is calling us (having a Kenyan number comes handy) to come get us and take us out to dinner!! :)
